The Future Is Bright

Nathanael, a name that means "God has given". God has given us so much joy from this special little boy. He has had a very interesting journey thus far and now we know that he will always be special.

During his 2 year routine check-up in July, Nathanael's neonatologist felt it was time to look into his issues with his right foot. While being fitted for a brace by an orthotist I was told he should be seen by a neurologist, to get diagnosed...for cerebral palsy. ??? Over the next couple of weeks we went from a "normal" child to being diagnosed by a neurologist, confirmed by an MRI that Nathanael has CP, both sides of his brain involved, causing issues with his right leg, left leg and right arm.

I was ok with it. Truly ok. Besides the occasional moments of "what if" or "will he be able to...", I have been ok. He is ok. In fact, he is great! He is sweet and smart and cute and lovable and he's mine. All mine.

So, he has always walked with a limp and he falls a lot and he writes with his left arm (and throws with his left arm, which thrills Todd), and, and... but he is ok.

He now wears an AFO brace on his right leg and has an insert in his left shoe. He has PT twice a week. He is at a "15-17 month" development level due to his gross motor disability. He will go to a special pre-school in March.

There is some scary things for the future like injections, surgery, the possibility that he will require more braces... but for now, he is ok. We are ok. God has a plan and we are ok with it.
